WFA National 60+ Esatbourne Borough 2 v Worthing 3

On an absolutely scorching day, we went to Eastbourne Borough FC for the Regional Semi-final of the WFA National Cup Over 60's. With John Garrett reffing to a high standard, we kicked off and dominated the opening encounter. Dave Blackledge in the Eastbourne goal kept us at bay, but after several missed chances, John Ling turned sharply and scored, making it 1-0.

Worthing played some great football with swift passing and movement before Duncan Moore found himself clear and dinked the advancing keeper to make it 2-0. Despite Worthing's complete control, an Eastbourne forward collected a ricochet and scored, making it 2-1 at halftime.

In the second half, Eastbourne came out with more determination, and a toe punt into the top corner made it 2-2. Both teams were tiring in the heat, but Worthing still posed a threat, hitting the woodwork for a third time. With minutes running out, a swift ball across the box found John, who set up Tony Ballam to score the winner, seeing us into the Regional Final against our local adversary, Old Varndenians. It should be another cracking game.

Congratulations to Manager Andy Benn and his squad. We also received our medals for winning the SCFL Walking Over 60s League.
