Today, our Over 50s hosted Canterbury Mariners in the WFA National Cup 2nd round.
On a very warm morning, Peter Knee had his Red Team ready from the start. Within a minute, Pete Stone found space and scored. Canterbury then had a couple of chances, but Matthew Pettman made two quality saves before another quick move saw Pete score his second. With less than 10 minutes on the clock, the score was 2-0. Another swift counter saw Lee Smart score after 12 minutes. It looked like the Reds were going to score with every attack. Canterbury's keeper made many saves to keep the score down.
Paddy Gibbs, after setting up the first three goals, decided to score a couple himself, with one being a rocket into the top corner. Before halftime, Pete added his third to complete his hat-trick, making it 6-0. Peter Knee had the luxury of making three substitutions at halftime.
With the Reds completely dominating, Pete scored his fourth from the penalty spot. Duncan Green had very little to do in goal in the second half. A complete rout, 7-0, and into the 3rd round. Congratulations to Peter Knee and his squad, and to the supporters who braved the heat to watch.
