A top of the table clash and it certainly showed with both teams playing to a superb standard. Both sides taking it in turns to dominate spells in the 1st half.
The Old Varndenians testing the Worthing Keeper 1st with a good save down at his right hand post. Then 2 mins later a thunderous shot by the Old Varndeanians out on their left hit the far post and bounced to safety. This spurred Worthing on and a sharp turn and shot by Pete Stone caught the keeper off guard as he turned and hit a shot into far corner 1-0...
Varndeanians made 3 changes at this point but Worthing were determined not to let the lead slip and took control with Carl Etherington running things in centre midfield...
1-0 at half time...
Worthing started to find gaps as Varndeanians pushed for an equaliser and, as in 1st half, Pete Stone again turned his marker and fired in off far post 2-0...
Worthing made a change with Stuart Baldock coming on in replace of Carl though Lee Smart, Dave Pearson and Paul Kelly worked tirelessly to thwart OV.
In the last minute a quickly taken free kick by the Varndeanians found its way through the wall and clipped the post as it nestled in the net 2-1...
Worthing the saw game out to deservedly piock up the 3 points against a team previously unbeaten in League and Cup over the last two seasons totaling 17 games, no mean feat at this level....Brilliant guys, well done...
