On an overcast afternoon Worthing Over 60's faced Rottingdean for the season opener in the SCWFL Over 60s league. A blustery setting on a very bobbly grass pitch saw Worthing dominate from the start and only wayward shots or shots straight at the keeper saw Worthing waste several chances before Neil Flockton found the net off the keeper and post after 15mins. That's how it stayed until half time.
The second half saw Worthing make 2 changes with Danny Dunk and Peter Knee entering the game. Soon after Worthing lost possession and the Rottingdean striker drew the Worthing keeper off his line and slotted the ball home 1-1.
From the kick off Worthing gained control and Neil Flockton restored the lead almost immediately. 2-1.
Rottingdean went on the attack and sadly a bad back pass from Danny, on a less than true pitch gave the Rottingdean striker a free shot into the corner 2-2.
John Ling restored the lead soon after with a well taken turn and shot. 3-2.
The game continued end to end and Worthing were greatful to Peter Bow who made made a great save in the dying secondsto deny Rottingdean their equaliser....With that the ref blew for full time giving Worthing a 3-2 opening day win.
